Cementing Her Global Superstardom: Lisa of BLACKPINK Waves the Checkered Flag
She’s a K-pop queen whose influence transcends borders – the one and only Lisa of BLACKPINK (Lalisa Manoban). As if being an international music icon wasn’t enough, Lisa can now add another feather to her bejeweled cap. The Thai rap princess was the special guest of the Red Bull racing team at the prestigious F1 Miami Grand Prix USA.
In a moment that will go down in motorsport history, Lisa waved the iconic checkered flag for the final 57th lap as the Formula 1 cars roared across the finish line. She received guidance from officials of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) on her flag-waving duties. Those given this honor are carefully selected based on their profile and involvement with the sport. Lisa scored the gig thanks to TAG Heuer – the luxury watchmaker headed by LVMH CEO Frédéric Arnault – being a major sponsor of Red Bull Racing. Just last year, she attended the launch of TAG’s new Formula 1 | Kith collection.
Previous checkered flag wavers at F1 races read like a who’s who of A-listers: Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mariah Carey, David Beckham, Tom Holland, Justin Bieber…the list goes on. But Lisa made history as the first Thai person ever bestowed with this prestigious role.
As if that wasn’t enough, Lisa also snapped a photo with Max Emilian Verstappen, the reigning world champion who drives for Red Bull. In this particular race, Verstappen came second behind Lando Norris of McLaren.
Lisa’s Miami Grand Prix cameo is yet another reminder that the BLACKPINK star has well and truly arrived on the global stage.
