INDIO, CA – On April 11th (local time), BLACKPINK’s Lisa emphatically proved her prowess as a ‘solo artist’ at the ‘Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival,‘ the largest and most iconic music festival in the United States.
Lisa, who had previously graced the Coachella stage twice with her globally renowned group BLACKPINK, commanded the spotlight entirely on her own this time. For 50 minutes, she delivered a dynamic set featuring over 10 songs. Kicking off with thunderous energy, she masterfully shifted gears throughout the performance, transitioning seamlessly between fierce, high-energy tracks demanding attention and more atmospheric, emotive pieces, showcasing her incredible versatility and range.
This performance also strongly hinted at the theme of her upcoming solo endeavors, potentially titled ‘Alter Ego.’ During a captivating moment in the show, Lisa playfully addressed the crowd: “White Lotus fans, you might be surprised to see Mook on stage… This is Lisa when she’s off duty!” The witty remark humorously highlighted the contrast between Mook, the character she’s set to portray in the upcoming season of the hit HBO drama ‘The White Lotus,’ and the commanding performer owning the stage. It perfectly echoed the ‘Alter Ego’ concept – ‘another self’ – building anticipation for her new musical chapter.
Visually, Lisa amplified the spectacle of her Coachella set with four stunning outfit changes. Perhaps the most jaw-dropping was a full silver bodysuit, evoking imagery straight out of a science-fiction epic. Its surface gleamed like metallic scales, accented with sculptural, almost horn-like structures, creating a formidable and otherworldly aura. Under the intense stage lighting, Lisa’s silhouette in this ensemble seemed to transcend the ordinary, blurring the lines between human and celestial being, radiating an intensity that felt boundary-breaking.
Another standout was a captivating see-through outfit, where embellishments resembling neon lights seemed organically woven into the sheer fabric, creating a stunning optical illusion. Injecting playful energy, she donned a bright pink ensemble featuring the beloved ‘Hello Kitty’ character. Later, a bold red leather outfit showcased a more daring, mature pop-star edge. Each custom piece, masterminded by visionary designer Asher Levine (renowned for dressing Lady Gaga, Doja Cat, and more), perfectly matched the musical vibe and visually signaled shifts in her dynamic stage persona.
Adding to the star power in the desert, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Lisa’s co-star in the upcoming season of ‘The White Lotus,’ was present to show his support. He enthusiastically shared a video of himself dancing during her performance on social media, captioning it unequivocally: “Lisa killed the stage.”
International media outlets universally lauded Lisa’s performance. Billboard described the set as “intense, creative, cool, and exhilarating,” adding that she “completely commanded the massive stage and crowd, synching perfectly with her dancers and clearly reveling in the moment.” The LA Times drew comparisons to BLACKPINK’s past Coachella appearances, reporting that this solo venture signaled “a newfound confidence for Lisa in forging her own path.”
